Space permissions control what wiki users can do in each space. They are set from the Space Administration screen's Permissions menu option.
| Permission | Enables Users To |
|---|---|
| View | Read content. |
| Create Pages | Add new pages and edit existing ones. |
| Export Pages | Export a page as a PDF or Word document. |
| Restrict Pages | Add page-level restrictions. |
| Remove Pages | Move pages to the trash. These pages can be recovered by an administrator. |
| Create News | Add and edit news. |
| Remove News | Move news to the trash. These can be recovered by an administrator. |
| Create Comments | Add and edit comments on pages and news. |
| Remove Comments | Permanently delete comments on pages and news. |
| Create Attachments | Add and update attachments to pages and news. |
| Remove Attachments | Permanently delete attachments from pages and news. |
| Remove Mail | Permanently remove email. This is rarely used, and only applies if you configure a space to retrieve email from a special account. |
| Export Space | Create backups and HTML or PDF versions of one or more pages. |
| Admin Space | Administer permissions, empty the trash, and manage other aspects of the space. |
A common initial impulse when granting Create permissions is to disable the corresponding Remove. While this seems like a "safer" setting, this can discourage experimentation and lowers user adoption. Only rarely do users accidentally delete content. And pages go to a "trash" area and are not deleted except by an administrator, further reducing that risk.
The two most prevalent scenarios define read-only users and editors (or authors). Anonymous users are rarely granted edit privileges.
