Custom Application Case Studies

process improvement,
web-enabled databases,
& systems integration

Stepstone specializes in integrating business functions and data. In this broad playing field, we have helped our clients:

enhance their products by adding simple, web-based management tools

integrate loosely coordinated data sources and input forms into a seamless, easy-to-use web application

combine a variety of proprietary and hard-to-use reports into a single, easily customized view for management and incentive employees alike

replace complicated, error-prone service management systems with a work-flow driven interface

For more concrete examples, we hope you'll explore these case studies:

A mature non-profit trades dozens of isolated databases for one simple system

Seattle's Asian Counseling and Referral Service grew in less than a decade from a small, community-driven non-profit to a multi-million dollar community support organization with dozens of public and private donors. Service employees were spending disproportionate time simply entering the data needed to meet the unique reporting requirements of each donor. Stepstone provided an integrated intake application that captured all the data needed for all current donors so that data was captured once for each new client but supported unique reports for each donor. Using the highly efficient Ruby and Rails technologies, and our own Rubriks framework, the integrated system was delivered for a fraction of the cost of competing bids. The savings allowed further investment in employee collaboration, online community, and knowledge management tools within a constrained IT budget.

A rapidly growing promotions firm streamlines production for cost savings and service excellence

The Compleat Company, already the leader in northwest corporate promotions services with northwest giants like Boeing and Microsoft, had outgrown its original high-touch service delivery process. Using Ruby on Rails and our own Rubriks, Stepstone provided a workflow driven web application that integrated supplier requirements with Compleat's tracking and reporting needs, allowing employees to deliver better customer service with less effort. More hits, more runs, fewer errors, at a cost that fit within a tightly constrained IT budget.
