Zen works best when applied to your entire Confluence site. This is because:

  • Many commonly used screens, such as search results and the login screens, are outside any given space.
  • Zen's design and navigation features allow a more user-friendly landing space to be used instead of the Confluence Dashboard.

However, in some cases you may want to use Zen only on a subset of spaces.

Apply Zen Site-Wide

To apply Zen at the site level:

  1. On the Admin Console > Look and Feel > Themes screen, select the radio button next to Zen Foundation and then click Confirm
    • Note: once Zen is applied site-wide, individual spaces can still choose a different theme. (Browse Space > Space Admin > Look and Feel > Themes) One caution, however: the 'default' Confluence theme will not automatically show up as an option once Zen is applied site-wide. You must first download and install the Original Theme Plugin.

  2. Decide on a "landing space" (an existing or new space). Then on the Admin Console > General Configuration screen, click Edit and then:
    • Change the Site Homepage to your chosen landing space.
    • Adjust the Site Title (this provides the text used for the first "anchor" bread crumb in Zen)
    • (It's also a good idea to double-check that the Server Base Url matches the URL used to access the site.)

Apply Zen to Individual Spaces

To apply Zen one space at a time:

  1. On the Browse Space > Space Admin > Themes screen, select the radio button next to Zen Foundation and then click Confirm
